Morning Lightning Round

While you were asleep, this happened in the MMA World…

-A link to today’s UFC 102 Pre-event Press Conference hosted by MMA Junkie. Their feed seems to be very reliable compared to some others.

-Quinton Jackson has been selected to play Mr. T’s role of B.A. Baracus in the new film version of the A-team. For some reason this role doesn’t seem like a stretch for Jackson, he’ll at least kill on the movie poster. I do however thinks this might make Jackson’s fight future a little more unclear. If he beats Rashad Evans you have to think there might be a long layoff in between filming and the title shot he’s earned. Long enough for Dana White to possible convince Lyoto Machida to defend his title against Anderson Silva? I guess we will see. Machida still has some work to do at UFC 104 against “Shogun” Rua.

-Yahoo! Sports is having a big week with this article on “The Dean of Mean” Keith Jardine on his upcoming bout at UFC 102.

-While BJ Penn is all but set to face Diego Sanchez, Kenny Florian is looking to get back into the Octagon quickly as well. He also is looking for a tough fight. We’ve heard rumors of a possible Clay Guida match-up but that is complete speculation at this point.

-Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker talks up the Fedor vs. Brett Rogers fight over at MMA Scraps.

-Fox Sports has a very vanilla UFC 102 preview. We show you this to get you amped up for Rob Davis better version tomorrow, so keep checking back.

-MMA Mania has Pictures and Video from Fedor Emelianenko’s open workout in New York City yesterday. To his credit Fedor has really come to embrace the hype behind him and is allowing himself to be put out to the American public constantly.

-We are going to keep featuring different fighters from the upcoming The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights and today we look at a former NFL-vet  turned TUF contender Marcus Jones, with an article from all places The New York Times. Jones has a great NFL pedigree and has the look of a promising Mixed Martial Artist but with a packed season it’s going to be interesting to see his learning curve.
