Lesnar in Against Carwin and Other Notes

Holy s***!!! It sounds as though Cain Velasquez is out of his UFC 106 fight with Shane Carwin, and the replacement appears to be none other than UFC HW kingpin Brock Lesnar.  While this fight could prove to be Lesnar’s toughest to date, with Carwin’s size, wrestling abilities, and striking power, some still may think that it is too soon for the Colorado native to step up and face the champ.  Either way, no way this fight disappoints.  Already a supercard in and of itself, other rumored matchups for 106 are Tito Ortiz vs. Mark Coleman and Jon Fitch vs. Ricardo Almeida.

It seems that the NSAC is continually making moves to make MMA more and more definitive, and along with the addition of instant replay and the “BJ Penn Rule”, NSAC has also announced that 5 round non-title fights are now permissible.  While I would rather not see ever fight become a 5 rounder, there are definitely some matchups that deserve more than 15 minutes.

While it is still only a rumor at this point, David Bielkheden has reported that Ricardo Arona has signed with Strikeforce and will begin competing within the organization after his fight against Marvin Eastman at Bitetti Combat in Brazil.  It’s about time Arona started fighting again, after all the guy was one of the toughest LHW in the world while fighting in Pride, now it’s his turn to remind the world he still has it.
